After the School Bell Rings
I received a copy of a WQED special on afterschool programs entitled, “After the School Bell Rings.” As I watched this documentary highlighting some of the best afterschool programs in Pennsylvania, I found myself saying, “Oh, we do that!” over and over again. The best practices in afterschool programming include a partnership with the school systems so as to ensure academic excellence. Assets, our newly established collaborative program with DARE 2XL and the Big Beaver Falls Area School District brings the academic piece of our program into the school with classroom teachers in every room. Next Generation staff have been able to offer their loving and lively support of the children in the peacefully focused atmosphere of the schools. We continue to offer Choices, our enrichment programming, at the church. A combination of strong academics and challenging enrichment, we do that!
